"Rwanda’s fiber optic, national backbone cable is to cost about $49m. Consultants from Scanbi Invest HB, France who spent three month carrying out a feasibility study for laying the fiber optic cable around Rwanda’s terrain said that the total cost for the loops at district level will cost an estimated $32.8m.
Mr Anders Engvall while addressing a workshop organised by the Rwanda Information Technology Authority (RITA) said that all Rwanda’s 30 districts are set to have fiber connectivity by December 2009.
According to Mr Engvall the fiber loops will be about 1300km long and the links will run along the roads. He added that the fiber will be a resilient network connecting to other districts through rings."
