Nakumatt in $20million East Africa expansion, opens Kigali branch

By Bosco Hitimana of The EABW

"KIGALI, RWANDA––Nakumatt Holdings-Kenya’s leading retail supermarket will open a super market early June in Kigali as it spreads its presence beyond Kenya to the rest of East Africa.
Last week, Nakumatt inked a buyout deal with the proprietors of City Market, Kigali's largest supermarket located in the posh Union Trade Centre (UTC) in Kigali.

“For the people of East Africa, this day confirms Nakumatt's commitment to expand into the region and makes Rwanda our regional expansion pad,” Nakumatt’s director of operations, Mr. Thiagarajan Ramamurthy said after the buyout signing ceremony. Ramamurthy says in its expansion drive, the chain store is planning to open three branches in Kampala, Uganda and three in Tanzania's capital Dar es Salaam before the end of this year and early next year respectively."
