Kigali: The most organised country in eastern Africa

April 20, 2008 Sunday Life Section of The Monitor

"So for me, Kigali has given me an impressive picture of a city, because now I know what a city is supposed to look like. There is something spectacular that caught my attention as I got into Rwanda from the undulating beautiful hills of Kabale - the cleanness! I remember that feeling I ignored as the Rwanda officials searched my bag and made me leave behind all the polythene I had carried with me.

My first impression as I entered Rwanda from Uganda, was of a system with a purpose. Everything is organized and very neat, a huge contrast with what one experiences at the Ugandan side of the border. The scenery too, all the way from the border to the city, is spectacular as is the road meandering round a thousand hills with not even one pot hole!"
